Elizabeth understands fair compromise

Elizabeth is a highly successful litigator and negotiator, with a reputation for getting even the most contentious of cases settled.  Elizabeth has worked tirelessly to help conflicting parties resolve their disputes with an emphasis on fairness, approachability, and cost-efficiency. She served as Vice Chair of the Ontario License Appeal Tribunal for 8 years and successfully settled many disputes during settlement hearings.  Elizabeth also serves as an Arbitrator & Mediator for the Building Arbitration Forum and as a mediator for Tarion.

More recently, Elizabeth was inducted into the Canadian Academy of Distinguished Neutrals (CADN), a professional association whose membership consists of ADR professionals distinguished by their hands-on experience in the field of civil and commercial conflict resolution. Members are amongst the most in-demand neutrals in their province, as nominated by their peers and approved by local litigators.

Elizabeth brings a professional and congenial approach to working with counsel and their clients, together with the confidence and commitment, to get the job done with optimal results for all parties.

Elizabeth is a negotiator

Her extensive experience and success at settling disputes as counsel made her a much sought after lawyer in the litigation field. She brings those same dispute resolution skills to Bennett Mediations.

Elizabeth has the background

Elizabeth graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School with a Bachelor of Laws in 1992. She was awarded her Master of Laws degree in 1998 with a focus on civil litigation and alternative dispute resolution.

In 2005, she co-founded Bennett Gastle PC, a boutique litigation and international trade law firm. Elizabeth maintained a results-driven approach to her law practice. She provided personalized service best-suited to the specific circumstances and needs of each case. These skills translate easily to her work as a mediator. Having handled so many cases in her career, Elizabeth knows how to be attentive to her clients’ needs, ensuring all parties feel good about having negotiated the best deal possible.

Elizabeth’s areas of practice have included insurance defence and commercial and civil litigation. Insurance defence experience includes disability, critical illness, life, creditor, and property claims; coverage issues; class actions; motor vehicle accidents; personal injury and professional negligence. Commercial and civil litigation experience includes breach of contract disputes; breach of fiduciary obligations; shareholders disputes; commercial real estate disputes; product liability issues; and human rights complaints.

Apart from her work experience, in 2009, Elizabeth co-founded a charitable organization, CLEW (Cambodian Legal Education for Women). CLEW is a registered Canadian charity committed to providing financial support to young women from rural Cambodia to help them escape the harsh realities of poverty.  CLEW provides scholarships, housing  and support  so that students can obtain a law degree from the Royal University of Law and Economics  in Cambodia.  With their degree CLEW graduates are empowered to obtain work and to help their families and communities.
